The people of India are enduring unimaginable hardship, hospitals are overwhelmed, and there is a critical shortage of oxygen and ventilators, livelihoods have been lost and people are starving. Many of you have messaged us to ask me how you can help with the smaller organisations who may not be getting much exposure, but which are giving excellent support in their local areas. Below is a list of some the initiatives our partners and trusted colleagues are involved with. Many are assisting in rural communities where they are struggling even for basics items such as masks and food. All are verified.

Rasoi On Wheels, provide healthy, nutritious, tasty, wholesome, hygienic packed meal boxes which are served to the less privileged section of society. Every day they deliver amongst the needy at slums, orphanages, old age homes, schools & hospitals. Currently they have an incredible network of people on the ground working 24/7 to support people during the pandemic, including children who have been orphaned by this crisis.

They have also set up a 100 people covid isolation centre where they provide beds, meals & basic medical facilities. In return patients promise to donate plasma to save another life. They are now creating an oxygen concentrator bank to help those who need it most & don’t have access to it but need to raise INR5000000/GBP50,000.00.

International Chandramauli Charitable Trust: Varanasi: http://www.chandramauli.org/

The ICCT runs projects in Varanasi to educate needy children and women and give them a value system.  Amongst their projects is a nursery/kindergarten for up to 80 children, a primary school up to 50 children, an evening school up to 170 children and a women’s empowerment sewing centre for up to 35 girls and women.  Currently, in addition to their usual activities, they are providing food and basic medical assistance for an additional 400+ children and their families who have no economic support at this time.

Last Wilderness Foundation: Panna, Kanha & Bandhavgarh: https://thelastwilderness.org/

LWF bridges the gap between authorities protecting forest and wildlife and communities around these protected areas. They use education, alternate livelihoods and communication tools to strengthen management plans with community participation.  These rural communities are now struggling and urgently need your help.  They have virtually no medical facilities and food is also scarce.

Last year, Last Wilderness Foundation helped provide food resources and hygiene material to about 250 Pardhi families (https://thelastwilderness.org/portfolio/covid-19-relief-panna-tr/).  Now they are urgently looking to raise funds to provide 1000 tribal households across 10 villages in the buffer zone of Panna Tiger Reserve with basic essentials such as food, vegetables s and masks. Horse India’s equine related operations provide many subsidiary local and rural suppliers and communities with income, through their employment as grooms/syces, tentwalas, chef and camp kitchen team, horse lorry & jeep drivers, local leopard spotters & desert guides. For our processions we hire in bullock carts, camels and village dancing horses – all these teams are also suffering through having lost their income streams.  Horse India are appealing for funds to help feed and maintain their teams as well as their 50 Marwari Breed horses during this pandemic.

Any contribution, however small, will directly fund the welfare of their staff, their support teams and their Marwari horses, and thus ensure that they will ride again!

Starting in May, founder Sophie Hartman will be running between 2 – 6kms every day, for 100 days to raise money for Frank Water. Why this distance, because that’s how far many women in rural destinations have to walk for freshwater.

In addition to their usual water and sanitation projects, they have teamed up with the Samerth Charitable Trust in Chhattisgarh and Kutch in order to ensure rations to daily wage labourers who are facing the appalling choice between risking Covid or starving. They are also transporting people in hard to access areas to vaccination centres.
